It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their cameos will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
