Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were suspended due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
